Amazon have sounded the bugle call for their new ‘reader-powered’ publishing program which is now officially open for submissions and will be called Kindle Scout.
The program is looking for new, never-before-published books of at least 50,000 words in the genres of Romance, Mystery & Thriller, or Science Fiction & fantasy. Readers will help to decide if a book get a publishing contract, so sharpen up your social media skills and get your friends organised.
Selected books will be published by Kindle Press, which seems to be a new imprint, and authors will be offered five-year renewable terms, a $1,500 advance, 50% eBook royalty rate, easy rights reversions, and featured Amazon marketing.
Books can be submitted now in Word format and Amazon will be asking readers to join and nominate books in a couple of weeks.
Authors should submit a complete book in Word format and cover image; a book one-liner comprising a very short pitch of no more than 45 characters; a book description of up to 500 characters; and an author bio and picture.
The first 3,000 words of each book will be published on a website for readers to preview and nominate their favorites. The books with the most nominations will be reviewed by the Amazon team for potential publication.
There is a 45-day exclusivity period to post your excerpt and tally nominations. If not chosen for publication, you automatically get all your rights back at the end of the 45-day exclusivity period.
