Ebook lending goes into OverDrive as 70 library areas are on course for a million checkouts in 2017

Specialist library distributor OverDrive says 60-70 library systems are set to lend over one million ebooks during 2017, doubling the number hitting the million mark two years ago.

In 2015, there were 33 library systems reaching a million digital loans during the year but this year at the end of June 60 library areas had hit 500,000 loans and another 10 were close to doing so.

Fifteen libraries have already passed the million mark for this year.

Ebook distributor Draft2digital recently announced it is now distributing ebooks through OverDrive, reaching 38,000 libraries and schools worldwide.

D2D says its distribution deal through OverDrive includes:

  • Lower minimum pricing  — set your price as low as $0.99.
  • Better royalties — earn 46.75% of your list price.
  • No contracts or limitations — distribution with OverDrive is opt-in, and you can choose to include or exclude your books right from your Author Dashboard.
