Amazon widens out KDP Print hardcover beta program

After launching KDP Print hardcovers in beta phase earlier this year, Amazon is extending the program to all authors.

You can now publish KDP Print hardcovers in the US, UK, Germany, Spain, France and Italy.

There are some differences with paperbacks and you might need to reformat your book to meet the hardcover requirements, although the usual trim sizes such as 6ins x 9 ins are available. There are five hardcover trim sizes and the page range is from 75-550 pages.

Covers are where the real sizing difference are with hardcovers as they are case laminate covers, which means the cover image is printed straight on to the outside board rather than on to a dust jacket. The image has to wrap around the board and be glued to the inside board.

Hardcover printing is well priced with a print cost of $8.50 for a 252-page book. At a list price of $20, the hardcover book would feature a royalty of $3.50. You can order author copies at the print cost plus shipping charges and taxes.
