Draft2digital adds Oyster ebook subscription service to distribution network

Ebook distributor Draft2digital has added subscription service Oyster to its list of digital stores covered for self-published authors.

Oyster is a cross-platform service with an app that allows users to read on a variety of devices.

The new distribution deal, however, excludes erotica due to Oyster content requirements.

Draft2Digital doesn’t opt authors into any sales channel automatically, so you’ll need to set up Oyster distribution for your books.

Oyster recently changed the name of its subscription service to Oyster Unlimited (don’t know where they got the name from) and added an ebook online sales store that stocks a wide range of new titles from the Big 5 publishers.

The company has grown from offering 100,000 ebooks in September 2013 to over one million now. Subscribers pay $9.95 a month for unlimited borrowing.

D2D added Oyster rival Scribd to its distribution roster in June 2014 and pays royalties of 60% of retail list price for any book read past the 30% mark, with 10 partial reads of between 10%-30% counting as a single sale. It already distributes to iBooks, Kobo, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, the German bookselling powerhouse Tolino, Inktera, and Scribd and some great author tools, including an excellent automated converter from Word documents to epub and mobi files.

Smashwords has had Oyster as a distribution option since September 2013 with a deal to authors of 60% of retail price once more than 10% of a book has been read.
