Ebook editions of Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy helped to send sales soaring in the Children’s/Young Adult book sector in January.
New figures show spectacular growth in sales of Children’s/YA books in January, with ebook sales in the category soaring by 65% and print hardcovers by 54%.
Overall trade ebook sales in the US also got off to the strong start, with January business rising by nearly 13% to $142 million from $125 million in the first month of 2013.
The figures from the American Association of Publishers show a 10% increase in overall book sales in January to $550 million from $500 million in the same month last year.
Adult fiction and non-fiction were up by around 3% from $352 million to $362 million but overall sales leapt by nearly 44% in the Young Adult and children’s sector to $144 million from $100 million.
