Shelf Unbound indie contest offers $6,000 worth of advertising

The Shelf Unbound Writing Competition for Best Independently Published Book is offering $6,000 worth of advertising for prize winners

The contest is sponsored by Bowker, which is the sole provider of ISBNs in the US.

Any independently published book in any genre is eligible for entry and entry fee is $40 per book.

Eligible books include self-published books and ebooks and/or books and ebooks published through small presses releasing fewer than five titles per year.

Shelf Unbound is a book review magazine that reaches more than 125,000 avid readers in the US and in 65 other countries around the globe. Subscriptions to Shelf Unbound are free at www.shelfmediagroup.com.

There is no limit to the number of books an individual can enter and each book is a separate entry and can be any length. The competition is open to authors worldwide but books must be in English.

This year, the competition introduces the Pete Delohery Award for Best Sports Book, open to fiction and non-fiction sports-related books, in honor of Pete Delohery, author of the novel Lamb to the Slaughter.

To enter, email a PDF or Word doc of your entire book, including the cover, to Margaret@shelfmediagroup.com, with the subject line Contest Entry (or mail a physical copy of your book to: Shelf Media Group, PO Box 852321, Richardson, Texas 75085-2321). Include email address, book title and check with an entry if sending by mail.

Deadline for entries is October 1. The winners will be notified by November 2.

The top five books, as determined by the editors of Shelf Unbound, will receive editorial coverage in the December/January 2015 issue of Shelf Unbound.

The author of the book named as the Best Independently Published book will receive editorial coverage as well as a year’s worth of full-page ads in Shelf Unbound (rate card value $6,000).

More than 100 books deemed by the editors as “notable” entries in the competition will be featured in the December/January 2015 issue of Shelf Unbound.
