Draft2digital widens ebook library distribution with Bibliotheca and adds new royalty-per-loan option

Draft2digital has expanded its ebook library distribution by adding Bibliotheca’s CloudLibrary to its range of channels after signing up OverDrive last year.

The deal also sees D2D offering a new pay-per-loan option for authors on ebook library distribution.

Libraries usually buy a copy of an ebook and the author gets a royalty on the sale. The library then lends out the book on the basis of one copy, one user (OCOU) which means that, like a print book, an ebook has to be returned before anyone else can borrow it.

But Draft2Digital’s new cost-per-checkout option for library distribution gives libraries the chance to get access to the same title for more than one user. Libraries will pay a 10% royalty of the book’s full purchase price each time it is loaned out.

D2D says this can raise discoverability for an author and increase revenue opportunities.

Both the CPC and OCOU options are enabled by default for library distribution channels at Draft2digital, so authors will automatically get the benefits of both, depending on a library’s choice. CPC can be disabled by visiting the new Library Pricing page at D2D or by visiting Advanced User Options on the My Account page.
