The Kindle Unlimited KENP rate for May 2019 stayed at the same level of $0.0046 that was paid out in April while the KDP Select Global fund went up by $500,000 to $24.6 million from $24.1 million in April.
In the UK market, the KENP rate for May 2019 also stayed at the same level of £0.0033 that was seen in April.
The rate of growth in the KDP Select Global Fund has been slowing in recent months from previous levels. This year’s May fund of $24.6 million was 9% up on the $22.5 million paid out in May 2018 and that’s down from the 13.5% year-on-year rise seen in April which was also showing a slowdown on previous growth.
The total paid out to authors by Kindle Unlimited since it launched is now $960.9 million and the $1 billion milestone is bound to be passed in July.
The total paid out by KU for the first five months of 2019 is $120.9 million, which represents a 14% increase on the $105.6 million paid in the first five months of 2018.
For May 2019, using the calculation of dividing the total KDP Select fund ($24.6 million) by the US KENP rate ($0.0046) to get an idea of the total number of KENPs read during the month results in 5.3 billion KENPs, a small rise from 5.2 billion KENPs in April. Previous months’ estimates include 5.3 billion KENPs in March and 5 billion KENPs in February.
Please note these estimates should not be regarded as necessarily being the overall total number of KENPs read during a month as they do not take into account any margin taken by Amazon. They are based entirely on the amount paid out under the KDP Select Global fund.
If, for example, Amazon pays out 70% of its total monthly take from Kindle Unlimited then the true KENP total could be as much as 30% higher. Amazon, of course, does not reveal its criteria for KU payouts.
